Lucas Glover Wins The Wells Fargo Championship

Lucas Glover defeated Jonathan Byrd in a playoff yesterday to secure his first win since the 2009 US Open. Glover was the only player to shoot 4 rounds in the 60s and made a clutch up and down on the 18th in regulation for par to get to 15 under and eliminate Rory Sabbatini who was in the clubhouse at 14 under after a final round 65.

Byrd required a birdie in regulation play at the tough 18th which he made which was only the 3rd birdie there all day. Glover -who is sporting a new beard which many have been claiming is the key to his success (me included)- found the 18th fairway in first playoff hole while Byrd found the bunker. Glover found the green and while Byrd failed to get up and down for par the 2009 US Open champion two putted his way to victory.

There was some controversy on the back 9 as Harrington, who was disqualified in Abu Dhabi in January after signing for the wrong score, was accused of having teed his ball ahead of the markers on the 13th.

Harrington and playing partner Phil Mickelson went out to the tee, watched replays and concluded that it was impossible to decide.

"There's just no way," said Harrington "If somebody asked me, I would have sworn I was six inches behind the marker,"
