Rory Mcilroy was -4 through 10 holes today at the first round of the Irish Open today before bogeying 11 and double bogeying the last to finish -1, 7 shots off the lead.
Following his round Mcilroy responded to former European Tour player Jay Townsend's tweet "McIlroy's course management was shocking. Some of the worst course management I have ever seen beyond under-10 boys' golf competition."
The US Open champion responded by saying "Shut up ... you're a commentator and a failed golfer, your opinion means nothing!" After Townsend replied saying he stood by his comments Mcilroy added that he stood by his caddie. "Now I've blocked him on Twitter so I won't be reading anything more."
Rory has had his current caddie JP Fitzgerald on his bag since the middle of his first full season as a professional in 2008.
Jeev Milkha Singh leads the field on eight under after a superb bogey free 63 including 6 birdies and an eagle.
Open champion Darren Clarke finished two under after a 69 but Graeme McDowell shot a 1 over 72.
